1. Introduction

KidVid ("we", "us", or "our") operates the KidVid educational video platform for children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our mobile app and website. We take children's privacy seriously and have designed KidVid with privacy as a core principle.

2. COPPA Compliance

KidVid is designed for children ages 4–12. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and are committed to protecting children's privacy.

Verifiable Parental Consent

Before any data about a child is collected or sent to our servers, a parent or legal guardian must provide explicit consent during the app's onboarding process. Only a parent or guardian may set up the app and create child profiles. The app's parent-only areas are protected by a parental gate to prevent children from modifying settings or accessing adult features.

Parental Rights

Parents and guardians have the right to:

• Review what data we have collected about their child
• Delete all of their child's data at any time using the "Delete All My Child's Data" button in the app's Settings
• Refuse further data collection by deleting their child's profile or uninstalling the app
• Contact us at support@kidvid.app to request data review or deletion

No Behavioural Advertising

We do not serve ads to children. KidVid is a subscription-only, ad-free platform. We do not use children's data for advertising, behavioural profiling, or any purpose other than providing the KidVid service.

3. Information We Collect

Information Provided by Parents

When a parent sets up the app, we collect:

• Child's first name — used to label their profile within the app
• Child's age — used to show age-appropriate content
• Age group selection — Curious Minds (4–8) or Future Builders (9–12)
• Avatar selection — a chosen emoji avatar for their profile
• Daily time limit preference — set by the parent to limit screen time

Information Collected Automatically in the App

When a child uses the app, we collect:

• Device identifier — a random, anonymous ID generated on the device (not the Apple advertising ID or any hardware identifier). Used to associate profiles and activity with a device.
• Watch events — which videos were watched, for how long, and whether they were completed. Used for the parent dashboard and to personalise video recommendations.
• Likes — which videos the child liked. Used to improve recommendations.
• Follows — which creators the child followed. Used to personalise their feed.

Information We Do NOT Collect from Children

• Email addresses
• Phone numbers
• Photos or videos
• Precise location
• Contacts or address books
• Microphone or camera data
• Advertising identifiers

Website Analytics (Parent-Facing Website Only)

Our marketing website (kidvid.app) is designed for parents and guardians — it is not intended for or accessible to children. On this parent-facing website, we use:

• PostHog — for usage analytics (pages visited, features explored)
• Microsoft Clarity — for session recordings to improve the website experience
• Meta Pixel — for advertising measurement to reach other parents
• Marketing attribution data — we collect UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign, content, and term) when parents visit through marketing links, to understand which channels help parents discover KidVid

These tools are used only on the parent-facing marketing website and are never included in the KidVid iOS app. The KidVid iOS app contains zero third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

• Show age-appropriate educational videos
• Personalise video recommendations based on viewing history and interests
• Enforce daily screen time limits set by parents
• Provide parents with viewing statistics on the parent dashboard
• Maintain and improve the KidVid service

We do not use children's data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with anyone outside of our service infrastructure.

5. Data Storage and Security

Children's data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Access to the database is restricted to authenticated API calls with rate limiting. Parent-only areas of the app are protected by your KidVid account password.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties. The only third-party service that processes children's data is Supabase, which provides our database infrastructure. Supabase acts as a data processor on our behalf and does not use the data for any other purpose. No other third parties receive children's data.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Retention Policy

We retain children's data only as long as reasonably necessary:

• Child profiles (name, age, avatar, time limit) — retained while the profile exists in the app. Deleted immediately when a parent removes the profile.
• Watch history — retained for up to 12 months to personalise recommendations and provide parent dashboard statistics, then automatically deleted.
• Likes and follows — retained while the child's profile exists. Deleted immediately when a parent deletes data.
• Device identifier — a random UUID stored on the device only. Removed when the app is uninstalled.

Parental Deletion Rights

Parents can delete all of their child's data at any time:

• In the app: Go to Settings → Privacy → "Delete All My Child's Data"
• By email: Contact support@kidvid.app and we will delete all data within 48 hours

When data is deleted, it is permanently removed from our servers. This includes all child profiles, watch history, likes, and follows associated with the device or account.

8. No Social Features

KidVid does not include comments, direct messages, chat, public profiles, or any feature that allows children to communicate with others or share personal information.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify parents through the app before the changes take effect.
